Independence Day 2014: Part 2

Saturday, July 5, 2014

Throughout the parade were many neat looking old and new cars.  (Click on photos to enlarge.)

Which are your favorites?  The remote-control cars invaded next.
They raced around and some even did flips.
Next was a drone!  It looked like an alien creature.  Then there was the march of the dogs and their owners supporting Bark for Your Park, an organization for getting a dog park built in Waverly.
I thought these Golden Retrievers were the most beautiful dogs there.
There was a juggler on a skateboard, a baton-twirler, a dance team, a unicyclist, a zipline, librarians wearing wigs blowing bubbles, the roller derby club on roller skates, the dentist's float, veterans and Lion's club displays, radio station vans, seed company floats, and a concrete mixing truck.

There were also floats for various political candidates.  Republicans supporting Bill Dix and Pat Grassley (who was there in person), and others handed out notepads.  And I managed to control myself from booing when the Butler County Democrats went by.

The horses came last led by a pair of beautiful Percherons

More horses and a pair of mules.

The "Dancing Horses" with riders in full costume.

Another group of equestrians.

And a couple horse-drawn carriages.
The parade ended with the Butler County Sheriff.  Afterward, my cousins who invited us all let us take pictures in their Mustang convertible (Thanks Josh and Jess)!

My immediate family returned home, and in the evening we drove out to a spot on our local gravel roads where we could see the fireworks from surrounding towns and from a clearing in the cornfields where some of our neighbors shoot fireworks every year.

How did you celebrate?  I hope you had a very happy Independence Day!
