Liebster Awards

Many thanks to Noémie and Paige for nominating me for the Liebster Award.  The Liebster Award is a way for bloggers to learn more about each other by asking 11 questions and posting 11 random facts about themselves.

11 Random Facts:
1. Until recently I didn't realize powdered peanut butter was available.  Just add water!
2. I was a 5-time Iowa Girls Chess Champion
3.  As a small child my dream job was owning a doughnut shop
4.  I play the piano, guitar, accordion, and harmonica
5.  I've read the Bible through 14 times
6.  I've seen limestone fence posts in Kansas.

7.  I've had my picture taken with a random vintage vehicle...
8. ...And on a friend's Harley Davidson.
9.  I'm 25% Thai.
10.  I've visited 20 U.S. States.
11.  When I was younger I told random people on the internet who asked how old I was that my age was the only positive real zero of the function f(x) = x^4-13x^3-29x^2-13x-30.

Noémie's questions:
Seeking Jesus
1.  For what are you especially thankful to the Lord right now?
My family, good health, and peace.
2.  What is your favourite part about blogging?
Living what I write about! Blogging gives me a great excuse for visiting interesting places with my family where otherwise we would not think to go. My blog also gives me a place where I can express my views, and since I am my own editor all of my articles are accepted!
3.  What is your "liebster" possession?
My Bible.
4.  What is your favourite genre of music?
I like country and Southern gospel, Christian bluegrass, hymns, and peaceful worship music.
5.  If you could describe being a Christian to people, what word would you use?
Life!  "When Christ, who is our life, shall appear; then shall we also appear with Him in glory."  Jesus is our life, our joy, love, and peace; everything outside of Him is bondage and death.
6.  Favourite tea?
I'm a water drinker.
7.  Which woman/man from the Bible inspires you the most?
Deborah is the woman who inspires me most because she was unafraid to judge Israel. She knew what God told her was true, and was so confident of this that she had the courage to go out with the army. Caleb is the man who inspires me most because he stood for what was right even when everyone else was rebellious and at 80 years old he boldly said, “Give me this mountain!” He claimed the promises of God and knew that God was with him.
8.  If you could change the colour of your hair, what would it be?
I embrace my rutilism.
9.  Do you have any "hidden" talents?
Yodeling (though that was revealed in an earlier post).
10.  Would you describe yourself as a handy lady?
It depends.
11.  Your biggest pet peeve?
Mosquitos, flies, hypocritical politicians, and weeds.

Paige's questions:
Sunday Best and All the Rest

To bless others and share my thoughts.

2. What have you enjoyed the most about blogging so far?
Visiting many fascinating locations with my family and reading your and other blogging friends' posts.

3. Peanut butter + chocolate or mint + chocolate?
Very tough question!  Mint and chocolate for ice cream; peanut butter and chocolate for everything else.

4. For your birthday, would you rather have your mom or sister cook you special meal or go out to eat?
Either would be great.

5. Series or stand alone books?
Stand alone books.

6. What version of the Bible do you prefer?
King James Version

No, but I occasionally take notes.

The 1950s.

Socks except when I'm working/outdoors or very hot.

11. If I were to visit you in your hometown, what would be the first place you'd want me to see?
Our acreage, the soda fountain, and Pine Lake State Park.
My nominees (If they would like to participate) are Julia at Writing for His Glory and Sarah at Trusting in the Lord, and if you'd like to complete the award, consider yourself nominated as well!  I would love reading the answers of anyone who would like to participate!  My questions are:

  1. Hey (:
So totally random, but I was reading your "about" and I've lived in Iowa my whole life and I have never heard of Rural Iowa! I am originally from southern Iowa in a little town called Lacona. So I know there are plenty of little Iowa towns out there.

  3. My favorite things about this post are as follows: Discovering powdered peanut butter(I wonder how it works...), rutilism, your answer for your age, your costume party and the places you would take me! :)

  4. This was great fun to read :) I am with you and had no idea there was powdered peanut butter - what will they come up with next?! I love peanut butter and wonder if this tastes as good as the "real" stuff...

And you yodel! Too bad we can't hear you through your blog :)

Also, I appreciated your admiration for Deborah in the Bible - she was quite the woman! I have always looked up to Hannah (Samuel's mother) because of her prayer for a child and the her sincere willingness to give her son back to the Lord.

Anyway, I hope you have a splendid weekend!

  5. Hi Hannah! Rural Iowa for me is between Ft. Dodge and Waterloo. I don't think I've been to Lacona before, but I was probably pretty close a few years back when we went down to Chariton to see a MacDonald Family Singers concert.

Thanks for participating Sarah! I enjoyed reading your post.

Enjoyed your comment, Paige; wish you could stop by for the tour and visit!

Yes, Stephanie, Hannah was an amazing woman with incredible fortitude. Giving a child to the Lord and only being able to see him once a year would be very hard on a mother! It would be interesting to try the powdered peanut butter one of these days...if I'm brave enough! ;)

  11. I'm impressed you read the Bible through 14 times! I honestly don't know if I've ever actually read the whole entire Bible, which makes me really sad and annoyed at myself. I've tried to do the "read through the Bible in a year" things and they just don't ever stick. I'm inspired to challenge myself to read through the Bible completely before my next (next) birthday (since my next birthday is in a month lol)

  12. All the best in your challenge to read the Bible through! I think it only takes 3-4 chapters a day to make it in a year; what really helps me is that my whole family reads it together. :)

  14. Thanks for commenting and following, Evie!
It was interesting reading your answers. Psalm 13 is a good one that I've studied and thought about. The first part is so sad and hopeless, but in the end God gives him strength to rejoice and blesses him.
Your advice on seizing opportunities is excellent. Also it's very neat that you speak so many languages!
