October Beauty

Friday, October 16, 2015

I decided it was time for an old-fashioned, non-controversial post.  Top on my list were articles about the St. Louis Zoo and the National Hot Air Balloon museum, but a  [very grumpy] person could say the election is already a zoo and the candidates are full of hot air, sooo...instead, here's a post to celebrate the beauty of an Iowan October.
"I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers."  --L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
"Autumn is a second spring, when every leaf is a flower."  --Albert Camus
 "Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all the other seasons."  Jim Bishop
"There is a place of quiet rest, near to the heart of God;
A place where sin cannot molest, near to the heart of God."
"There is a place of comfort sweet, near to the heart of God;
A place where we our Saviour meet, near to the heart of God."
 "There is a place of full release, near to the heart of God;
A place where all is joy and peace, near to the heart of God."
 "Oh Jesus, blest Redeemer, sent from the heart of God;
Hold us, who wait before Thee, near to the heart of God."
--Hymn by Cleland B. McAfee
 "The Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory:
no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly."  --Psalm 84:11

  2. Glorious autumn scenes from Iowa and what a blessing to read the words of that wonderful hymn! I will take that phrase "near to the heart of God" and tuck it away in my heart and ponder it as I go about my day!

  3. Ahaha! I like and agree with your "grumpy" quote. That said I love hot air balloons and would definitely be interested in a post about them. This Autumn post was lovely too. So many beautiful colors!

  11. Gorgeous autumn photographs! It is very nice to step away from the craziness of elections and enjoy nature's beauty. I had a good laugh with your line: "the election is already a zoo and the candidates are full of hot air". Indeed. We've been dealing with the same thing in Canada but at least tomorrow it'll all be over.

I have gotten behind on reading your political posts, but love that you are doing them...reporting your perspective which I appreciate as I try to formulate my own :) ....which may be similar to yours on many points. xx

  21. Hi Bethany, What a great post and, yes, a big breath of fresh air! :-) I don't mean to sound like I'm not enjoying the posts on the candidates ... I am indeed, but they take a good bit longer to digest and enjoy. :-) Your photography here is excellent. My favorite is the third from the top ... if that doesn't say Autumn I don't know what does. Great shot. I also like the way you incorporate the quotes, hymns, and verses.
