Answers: A Confession of Humanity

You know, sometimes I may not like to admit it...but the questions asked in response to my Your Turn post have forced me to confess: I too, am human.  I had fun figuring out how to answer these!
Martha asks: What three personality traits do you admire in people?
#1 Kindness
#2 Intelligence
#3 Diligence/reliability

Anonymous asks: Hello Bethany, You are an interesting girl, as well as pretty, and smart, and always seem happy, but do you ever feel sad, and if so, what makes you sad?
Why, thank you! :)
Yes, I feel sad when I say goodbye to those I love (and when I miss them).
I also feel sad when I think of certain friends whose lives have not been happy.
And I feel sad when I think of the cruelty, injustice, and suffering in the world.

Kathleen asks: What's your most embarrassing moment?
I usually am too busy laughing at myself to get embarrassed...
I suppose the most potentially embarrassing thing I've done is unintentionally crash a wedding by heading to the nearest steeple without checking which denomination it was...  Oh, and we signed the guest book.

Martha asks: What was the last thing that made you laugh?
See above, I am constantly laughing to myself over one thing or another.  And if I ever run out of things to laugh about, I can always head over to your blogs!

Martha asks: What three words best describe you?
Can I go with Anonymous' description of me above: happy, pretty, and smart?!  I sort of like that...  Add humble to that description, and we're set!

Ok...maybe swap pretty for consistent.  I'm stubbornly consistent to the point of being boring at times.  How about happy, consistent, and unconventional?
Margie asks (+1 from The Lady Okie): What is your guilty pleasure?
Thrift shopping--though I don't feel too guilty since I generally get out of the store without spending more than $10!  At my favorite thrift store everything is incredibly inexpensive!

Also--I enjoy watching Studio C, my favorite sketch comedy (this episode is a good one)...and on weekends an episode of whichever old series I happen to be working through, currently The Fall Guy.

Christine asks: What makes you nervous and how do you conquer your fears?
Watching athletes attempt the course on American Ninja Warrior makes me a nervous wreck.  I *so* do not want to see them fall, and this season they all did.  If only Drew Drechsel or Daniel Gil could have won the million dollars this year!

I think of the show when I need to encourage myself to press on through the next obstacle: working, running, or in life.  Never give up!

"These walls were not built to shut out problems; you have to face them.  You have to live the life you were born to live.  Climb every mountain, ford every stream..."  --Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music.

Hopefully next season someone will climb Mount Midoriyama again.

Anonymous says: I admire your Spirit! Have you always had spirit, curiosity, and a thirst for knowledge? Explain!
My parents started me out right with the Bible, which says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction."

I didn't want to be a fool.

Anonymous asks: What is your biggest fear?
I fear God, and faith in Him conquers my fears.

I used to fear migraines.  As a young teenager I had them often.  One day my parents and our mayor, Jim Daggs, prayed for me, and the migraines stopped coming with frequency (I only had a handful during the rest of my teens).

Although I still have them on rare occasions, I'm learning my triggers, and I no longer fear them.  God is greater.  Pain is temporary.  He gives me peace.

John says: Tell us one thing you know for sure.
Jesus loves me!

I am sure, of this one thing, My God is Real, for I can feel Him in my soul...His love for me is like pure gold; my God is real, for I can feel Him in my soul.
See here for the song as sung by Johnny Cash.

"I'm only human; I'm just a woman..."  But I know He's God!
"Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."  --Hebrews 11:1

I have to admit I scrolled down quickly to see if you answered my question and, yes, it is there! I love your answer and I must admit, I'm not at all surprised with your answer! I've followed your blog for a long time and know that your faith is beyond question. Your witness makes the presence of the Holy Spirit in you unmistakable! Just a wonderful post here!

  15. Wonderful answers!
Your wisdom and fine character is shown through the things you admire, seek, and enjoy...
I also truly respect people that are reliable and diligent...meddling around in the music industry/world, I can tell you that is a weakness in most musicians.
Something I always want to be careful about!

once again, wonderful answers! thanks for sharing

  17. So did you run into Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn at the wedding?

Thanks for answering my question! You're saving the environment by thrift shopping! And if you shop at charity stores, you're basically donating money to them, right???

    1. I don't think they were at this one...but I watch so few modern movies I'm afraid I wouldn't have recognized them if they were!

Good way to look at it! Now I have two more good excuses for my thrift-shopping indulgence! :D Thanks!

  19. I want to PROFOUNDLY thank you for turning me onto Studio C. I love it. A few months ago I saw a video from what I thought was a real soccer match. That in turn was a Studio C skit. I laughed until I almost lost consciousness. I now subscribed to them and when I need some cheering up, I go to their YouTube channel. Once again thanks and have a great night.

Poor Scott Sterling... That must have been hilarious watching him when you thought you were going to see a real soccer match though.
