7 Stars Family Restaurant in Hampton

Tuesday, January 3, 2017

In late October, we stopped at the 7 Stars Family Restaurant in Hampton, Iowa for a family dinner after setting up for the train show.  The restaurant had a pleasant environment, and the waitresses were very nice and provided excellent service.
I ordered grilled chicken, which came with a potato and a choice of soup or salad with a roll.  If I recall correctly, you could also choose from a variety of ways to have your potato fixed.  I chose mashed potatoes with gravy, and salad.  I would have preferred a slightly larger portion size, but the whole meal only cost $6.95.  Everything was very good.  Afterward, I tried their pecan pie with ice cream ($3.25).

Comments from others indicated that the chicken fried steak was wonderful.

But the real winner of the evening seemed to be pancakes!  Two pancakes cost $3.05.  Blueberries were an additional 40 cents per pancake, and some in our party opted to add a scoop of ice cream (75 cents).
I would not hesitate to visit the 7 Stars Family Restaurant again for a tasty home-style meal.
How do you like your pancakes?

  1. The food in your photos looks very good, Bethany! I love home style meals! Hmmmm...I have to admit that I rarely have pancakes. But when I do, just a simple topping of maple syrup is required. I also have fruit with the pancakes sometimes.

  2. I like blueberry pancakes with the blueberries cooked in the batter with maple syrup. I like the ones I make at home best with Bisquick.
The Velvet Pancakes at iHop are really good and I LOVE them but I don't consider them pancakes. It is like eating a piece of cake!!

  3. Now you're making me hungry. It must be dinner time. You know what makes the best pancakes? This pumpkin maple syrup my hubby found. Oh. My. Goodness. Epic deliciousness. I'm salivating just thinking about it.

  8. Yummy looking stuff and very affordable. ;) WE used to have a place in town that had THE BEST pancakes in the world!! The owners moved away and we don't have it anymore, but i dream of those pancakes sometimes. Lol There is no where to find the recipe, but I may start experimenting to try to recreate them. But one of the best kinds they had were pecan pancakes! It sounds weird - but when you put maple syrup on them they tasted like any amazing cookie! :)

    Now I'm hungry Lol xoxo

    1. Waiting for Tim to get home. Not sure what we shall eat tonight. But I could go for a pumpkin spice steamer right about now.

  13. Hi Bethany, I will take the pancakes with blueberries but will pass on the ice cream. Twenty years ago I would have taken the ice cream too, but have to watch my diet these days. I do believe the portion of mashed potatoes looks too small! :-) If people are what they eat, I am mostly potato and proud of it. 7 Stars is a place I will add to my list of places to see in Iowa. Thanks for the excellent review!
