Waterloo Chick-Fil-A

On a shopping and site-seeing trip in Waterloo, Iowa, Yai and I decided to stop for lunch at Chick-Fil-A.  I had only eaten at a Chick-Fil-A once before in my life--and loved it.  So, I was excited to try another chicken sandwich.
I couldn't remember what I had ordered last time (years back), so I went for a grilled chicken sandwich meal, which included waffle fries and a drink for $7.39.  Yai ordered the same.  With my sandwich, I had honey mustard sauce.
Other than their unique shape, waffle fries were much like any other French fries I've encountered at fast food establishments.  They seemed less salty than McDonald's fries, and consequently were probably a little more healthy, and a little less tasty--but not much.

The grilled chicken sandwich was good.  The honey-mustard sauce added just the right flavor.  I liked the higher-quality bun and lettuce and tomato.  The whole meal seemed much more salubrious than a greasy hamburger!
The restaurant was clean and tastefully decorated in a modern style, with an artificial bouquet at each table.  Outside, there were tables for anyone who desired fresh air.
Chick-Fil-A is definitely a place I'd enjoy returning to.  I would enjoy sampling other items on their menu.  But I am tempted to think great company may be part of what made the meal so enjoyable.  It's awesome to have a grandma who enjoys travelling as much as I do.
What are your top three favorite fast food restaurants?

  1. Hi Bethany! When we visited the States on vacation, we all agreed that Chick-Fil-A restaurants are top notch for fast food and delicious chicken! We would love to have a franchise open over here!

  2. Good morning, Bethany! Chick-fil-a is my all time favorite fast food restaurant. I usually have their famous Chick-fil-a sandwich combo with waffle fries and a sweet tea. Their nuggets are good too, as are their salads. Now for dipping sauce, try the Polynesian for the waffle fries! I kid you not, it is DELICIOUS!!! But great company always makes a meal better, no matter where you are. So glad you enjoyed time with your grandmother :)

  6. Sounds like a really lovely time. The company often makes the food taste even better :) I've never eaten at this place but I'd be curious to try it if I visit down south.

    1. It's always interesting to hear Canadians refer to us as "down south," since we consider the South to be south of us. ;) But I guess you all claim the true Northerner title!

  7. Chick-Fil-A is pretty much the only fast-food restaurant we'll go to.

  8. Yum!!! We LOVE Chick-Fil-A! We really enjoy their food and it's own, unique taste, and we really appreciate the stand they take for God, honoring Him by closing on Sundays, etc. My three favorite fast food restaurants would be (in this order): Chick-Fil-A, Arbys, and Taco Bell. Thanks so much for sharing. Your grandma looks so sweet!

    1. Interesting to see your top three! Mexican food is almost always good--so good choice on Taco Bell. I'm not as crazy about Arbys though. Awesome that you enjoy Chick-Fil-A!

  9. There are no Chik-Fil-A's near us, so I've never been. I really respect the company though!

  10. Oh, my family and I love Chick-Fil-A. We don't have one near us, but when we visit the city once a month we always go to Chick-Fil-A. It's always clean, their employees are incredibly kind, and their service is fast :)

    My top three would be:
    1. Chick-Fil-A
    2. Does Starbucks count? {{smiles}}
    3. Carl's Jr. or Arbys

    Have a great week! Hugs

    1. If you visit Chick-Fil-A once a month, you'd be a regular compared with me! Awesome that you have a tradition of going whenever you visit the city. There aren't any Carl's Jr. restaurants around here. Though I'm sure I must have visited one as a child, I don't remember their food. Thanks for stopping by, Stephanie!

  13. Hi Bethany, It has been a litte over a year since the first Chick-fil-a opened in the Pacific Northwest, in this case Bellevue, just east of Seattle. It seemed like everyone in the PNW was waiting just for this restaurant to open. Police were needed to control the traffic around the place! The lines are still usually out-the-door at lunch time. I probably drive over once a month or so, whenever I think the traffic will be low. And that is getting rare! Anyway, I usually get the #2 sandwich with a "real" lemonade. (Real as opposed to diet.) I agree with you about the waffle fries. My next favorite places: Five Guy's burgers, and Subway. Nice post, as always. Could not believe the small crowd in there, but guess it's that Chick-fil-a is so common in the Midwest? Do you have Five Guy's in Iowa?

    1. No, we don't have Five Guy's in Iowa, but their website says they are coming soon to Dubuque and Des Moines! Wow! That must have been something to see the Chick-Fil-A's grand opening! I vaguely remember seeing news about when the Waterloo one opened. Ah yes, here's the article: people were camped out in tents to be part of the first group of customers that would get a free meal. I guess everyone is used to the restaurant now, so it isn't as big of a deal--there are so many choices in Waterloo, and we don't have nearly as many people as Seattle! Wow, that must be really something to have to wait in lines that long!

  14. Hi Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a comment.
I like Chick-fil-a too. But being honest I like the spicy chicken at Wendy's better.
Subway was some really good sandwiches too.

    1. Hopefully your "yuck" remark is because you didn't like their food...not that you didn't like the company when you visited! I guess to each her own. :)
